2nd DR Appointment--13 weeks.

So, Justin and I went in today for our second 'official' doctor appointment. This was actually the first time we met her--Dr. Tracy Johannsen. Each year a local city publication devotes an issue to the top doctors in the area. She is consistently in the top 5 OBs in the city. So far, she's lived up to her expectations. She was personable (don't want someone so clinical that they make you feel uncomfortable--especially during deliver) yet very knowledgeable.

She listened to the baby's heart beat--it has an external speaker on the devise so we could hear it too. She was about to give the disclaimer that 'sometimes at 13 weeks it takes a while to find the heart beat' but she didn't need to. As soon as she put the devise on my tummy you could hear it. Then, there was a hiccup sound--it was the baby moving. Crazy! The heart rates was 154-160 bpm. I've been reading online (probably too much) that a fast heart beat means it's a girl. She said that's true, about 60% of the time, but it doesn't mean anything right now as all babies have high heart beats at this stage.

Our next appointment is October 15 when we do a fetal screen ultrasound, which includes the reveal of the baby's sex (happy birthday, Mom). I'll be 18 weeks then.

Stacia, This is a great idea. We were wondering how week 13 was going. Amante needed to help me figure out how to do this.

Take care. Hope you are feeling well.
